We are grateful to everyone who responded to this consultation. The Home Office received 126 responses; of these 34 were from a range of organisations, including public authorities, non-governmental organisations, academic institutions and private law firms, and 92 from interested individuals.
Following an undertaking given during parliamentary consideration of the statutory instruments bringing the codes of practice into force, we sought permission from the respondents to publish their comments. Where they have granted permission, the responses are presented.
The views expressed by all respondents have been taken into account in developing the draft codes of practice.
The final revised codes of practice came into force on 10 December 2014.

Consultation description
This consultation contains proposals to update the covert human intelligence sources code of practice and the covert surveillance code of practice. Both codes of practice have greatly improved control and oversight of the way public authorities use covert investigatory techniques, in order to protect our right to privacy. The changes made to the draft codes, on which we are seeking views, are highlighted throughout the documents attached.
This consultation runs for 6 weeks from 13 February 2014 to 27 March 2014.
